Abstract: George Orwell’s 1984 is a famous anti-utopia novel. Based on close reading, this thesis analyzes the political structure and operating model of a totalitarian country called Oceania, in which there were advanced science and technology and “perfect” political system. The second part of this thesis analyzes the heroic images with the plot related to them in details, expresses the suppression of humanity in dictatorship, and shows the heroes’ humanism spirits while they fight against this regime. Finally, this thesis points out that the author’s anti-utopia theme is illustrated by the heroes’ tragic endings.
