Abstract:Since 1990s, China has been dedicating to readjusting the teaching methods and the examination system of middle school to reform middle school education. However, as a crucial part of English teaching, oral English teaching is always left ignored and develops very slowly. 

   Under China’s examination-oriented education system, few schools attach importance to the teaching of oral English, leading to many cases of English teaching failure. An increasing number of middle school students are trying to learn a so-called Good English via a short-term discipline in English training schools rather than the long-term English learning at their own middle schools. Traditional teaching methods and solid teaching style restrain oral English teaching’s innovation and the development of students’ talent. So we must shift our traditional philosophy and learn from these excellent domestic and oversea English education organizations to promote the basic middle school oral English teaching.

   Middle school oral English teaching have five key components, namely, listening, speaking, reading, writing and translation. They are integrated with each other and have inevitable importance respectively. Listening is the input of the language, while reading and writing are the processor, and speaking and translation are the output. Improving and strengthening the teaching of these five parts will help us to stabilize students’ interest in English learning at school, enhance oral English teaching of middle school and generally innovate upon the English education of middle school.
