Abstract:We all know that speaking plays a very important role in English learning. With the globalization of economy, English has become a global language. The main purpose of learning a foreign language is to communicate. So, it is very significant to improve the ability of speaking English. However, in many rural areas of China, students in junior high schools have little chances to learn to speak English well. There still exist a lot of problems in learning and teaching spoken English. Thus, according to the findings of questionnaire from the students of Grade 8 in Liuxi Middle School, this paper analyzes the problems in English speaking among junior high school students. From the investigation, four main problems in English speaking have been found: first, the lack of correct pronunciation; second, the lack of adequate language input; Third, the lack of enthusiasm in speaking practice; Fourth, the lack of enough vocabulary. To solve the above problems, this paper puts forward some suggestions and methods: helping students lay a solid base of English phonetics; paying attention to the effective language input; creating a good language surroundings to arouse students’ interest in English learning; expanding students' vocabulary in order to speak English well.
