Abstract:English vocabulary is meticulously classified, including content words and function words. Function words are words that have little lexical meaning or have ambiguous meaning, but can signal the structural relationships that words are the glue that holds sentence together.
Content words are words that have independent meaning compared with function words is lexical meaning. How to make the article to fill the gap smoothly is the convergence of the words in English. In other words, the use of the sentence connector plays an important role. The writer of the thesis used statistical methods and corpus analysis to study how conjunctions are used in English academic writing. Since Jiangnan University provides three best programs, namely Food Science and Engineering, Biological Engineering, and Chemical Industry, the study is intended to focus on three main fields of academic writings at home and abroad. The study also analyzes the regular patterns and characteristics of the connectors used in these papers, and what are the differences between good and poor writers in using sentence connectors in the aspect of Food Science and Engineering, Biological Engineering, and Chemical Industry.
