Abstract:The movie The Jungle Book, released in 2016, created a fantasy world of animals. It instantly became a hit to people of all ages, which took the common issue relationship between human and nature as its theme. Though the movie had huge box office returns, it also suffered from plenty of negative comments. This thesis tries to find out the main reasons that accounts for the movie’s being under fire by analyzing its main characters and narrative rationality. The biggest problem of characterization lies in the one-sidedness of characters’ personalities. Meanwhile, design of plots doesn’t accord with the two key principles of narrative——coherence and fidelity. In the end of this thesis, the author provides certain explanation to help the audience understand why The Jungle Book still attracts a large number of viewers. This thesis applies the method of narrative analysis, and finds out possible problems of narrative structure of a popular animal movie.
