Abstract: The thesis aims to give an interpretation of the growth of the young girl Mick Kelly from the perspective of female initiation story. The thesis analyzes the Mick’s growth from the confusion of her inner world and appearance, the significant events in her growth process, and the causes of Mick’s growth. Through the analysis, it concludes that McCullers’ creation is based on her own growth experience. She is concerned about the socially marginalized people. She encourages young ladies to know more about themselves and to achieve self-growth.
