Abstract: Since Chinese is a language teemed with parataxis, sentence division can be vague or even ungrammatical, especially in literary works. Translation of such sentences calls for appropriate division and combination so as to faithfully convey the original message to readers and to improve the English version. This paper aims to illustrate the theoretical basis for sentence division and combination in translation, which comes up with some key points of sentence division and combination like logical connection as well as aesthetic feature in C-E literature translation and offers practical translation skills for literary works.

摘要：汉语重意合，特别是文学语篇中常出现断句不严格的现象。在翻译过程中需要对语句进行适当的拆分与合并，才能更好地传递原文信息，提高译文质量。本文分析了拆句与合句译法的理论基础，提出了注重逻辑关联和艺术特征等拆句与合句译法的要点并举例说明了文学翻译中的翻译技巧。
