本次翻译实践选取的材料来自于《好男人》一书中的第八至十章。该书为西方出版物，未曾被翻译。本次翻译实践选取其作为翻译原文，旨在提升翻译能力，提升自由转换中英两种语言能力，分析中英语言差异，总结英文宗教小说的翻译方法。该小说主要记叙了主人公麦姬友好对待一群虎斑猫以及在其过程中和朋友之间发生的故事，体现了在一定时代背景下，社会政治、经济、文化、思想等方面的真实情况。对此文本的翻译可以使人了解社会各个方面，扩充宗教小说的知识。
原文多以对话形式展开，丰富了人物形象。在翻译时需要结合前后语境，连贯地向读者传达作者的中心思想，以恰当的形式和风格翻译出来。因此在翻译本文的过程中，借助于字典，网络，以及参考相关的宗教小说的翻译进行比较选出更适合文章的语言风格。所选原文语言通俗流畅，用词简洁，小论文聚焦简单词传递意义的功能及其翻译方法。

Chinese culture is more closely connected with other cultures in the process of globalization. Western religious novels play a great role for Chinese people to understand western religious thought, their concept of love, and social life. Promoting the exchange of ideas between cultures is a common goal of experts and scholars in the field of religious fiction. The novel is the ideological literary genre, in which the author, through portraying characters, depicts different plots to reflect social life. Excellent novels not only show rich artistic images, pictures of life and social knowledge to the readers, but understanding of human life, imperceptibly influencing the readers’ thought and training. Religious novels are based on religious themes, combining with the social life as their subjects, aiming to elucidate the religious significance, religious thought, and revealing the true meaning of life in the novel.
