Abstract
Linguistics is the scientific study of language. It is necessary for English learners to learn and master the language. Nowadays, linguistics has become one of the compulsory courses for English majors. So, is it still important to learn English for senior high school English teachers? The answer is no doubt. It is still very important for high school English teachers to continue their study of linguistics. This paper will demonstrate the importance of high school English teachers' continuous study of linguistics from three aspects. First, it will discuss the importance of linguistics itself. By studying linguistics, teachers can not only deepen the understanding of language, also can teach students in accordance with their aptitude and choose the appropriate linguistic knowledge as teaching guidance according to the actual situation of teaching. Secondly, it will demonstrate the influence of linguistics on the actual English teaching in senior high school. In the course of English teaching, the linguistic theory is instructive and enlightening to Senior High English teachers. Finally, it will discuss the importance of the continuing study of linguistics for high school English teachers from the perspective of teachers' growth and the demands of society.
