Abstract: Toni Morrison was the first African-American female writer who won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1993, and her works show deep concern on the black people in the overwhelming white cultural society. This thesis aims to study the black people who live under the oppression of the white culture and the racial discrimination, which make the black people lose their subjectivity in The Bluest Eye.Through the analysis of the alienation in aesthetic value, the distortion of parents’ love, and the importance of self-examination, the thesis concludes the causes of their tragedies. In order to both regain the confidence of the nation and be respect by others, the black people must accept their own culture and civilization.
