Abstract
On the basis of previous research, this dissertation mainly makes an analysis of the dual character of Jane Eyre. Jane’s rebellious image struggling for her independence and equal rights with men has taken deep roots in the heart of people for a long time. Actually, not only does Jane have the character of rebellion and self-respect, but also self-abasement. The reasons which cause Jane’s self-contempt are a plain looking and a humble origin. The dissertation analyzes Jane’s self-based character through details, dialogues and psychological behaviors. The dissertation also analyzes Jane’s rebellious consciousness from four stages including the formative stage of rebellious character, the development stage of rebellious character, the maturation stage of rebellious character and the peak stage of rebellious consciousness.
