Abstract
A Rose for Emily is one of Faulkner’s famous novels, depicting the tragic fate of the last elderly southern spinster, Emily. Absolutely, there are many reasons leading to Emily’s tragedy from the conflicts between the south and north to the sharp social change in that era, from the restriction of her father to the betrayal of her lover, from the Emily’s distorted personality to the Faulkner’s localism. Emily’s tragedy stands for all the women’s misfortune fate in that era. Emily is the victim of that society.
