Abstract
As a second-generation Chinese American,Amy Tan is born with a distinctive gift for writing about how Chinese American females fighting against oppression. Her feminist thought is perfectly captured in her novel named The Joy Luck Club. In this essay, six representative women are analyzed briefly so as to illustrate that self-consciousness awakening is the only way towards female self-salvation. This thesis begins with a rough idea about the background of feminism. Then it introduces Amy Tan and her book The Joy Luck Club briefly. The remainder of this thesis analyzes the awakening of the three mothers and daughters in detail. At the end of this thesis it comes to a natural conclusion that women need to articulate their own voice in this male-dominated world with the purpose of achieving the goal of ‘Joy’ and ‘Luck’.
