《好男人》主要记叙了主人公友好对待五只虎斑猫，以及在其过程中和朋友之间发生的故事，宗教文化对人物的为人处事、婚姻观念等的影响,体现了特定时代背景下，社会政治、经济、文化、思想等方面的真实情况。
翻译所选其中的四个章节，全篇使用了叙述的手法。
第一章主要讲述了麦琪收养了虎斑猫，并和站在甲板上的道格拉斯交谈，道格拉斯是麦琪的邻居，他建议麦琪让猫绝育。

INTRODUCTION
A GOOD MAN mainly narrates that the protagonist friendly treats five tabby cats, something happens between friends, and religious culture has an influence on people and their idea of marriage. Under the specific era and background, the social, political, economic, cultural and ideological realities are reflected.
In the four chapters selected in the novel for translation, narrative is frequently used.
The first chapter narrates that Maggie adopts five tabby cats and discusses with Douglas standing on the deck. Douglas is Maggie’s neighbor, but he suggests that Maggie gets the cats all spayed.
The second chapter narrates that Maggie and Robbie are together, but she has never made their relationship clearly. But when Robbie and Sasha engage, Maggie decides to start again, and Douglas helps her take care of the cats.
The third chapter narrates that the Keswick Community Church is unlike the one in Toronto. Maggie communicates with Emily deeply. Brad is sought after by all the ladies. Maggie has lunch with Emily together and visits Emily’s residence.
The fourth chapter narrates that Maggie and Douglas look for missing cats together and Maggie worries a lot. Later they successfully find them and talk about some interesting topics.
The novel mainly develops in the form of dialogues, which enriches the image of the characters. The novel takes the cats as the main line going through Douglas’ consistent attitudes towards the cats before and after, which is a real reflection of the theme of A GOOD MAN.
