Abstract
With Chinese economic and technological rapid development nowadays, China has played an important role in international communication and trade. So, there is no doubt that we should attach more importance to cultivating English professional talents. As a significant part of English major courses, students’ academic performance evaluation is the important guarantee for achieving curriculum objectives. At the same time, it also meets the demands of the age to cultivate highly qualified talents with China's foreign trade expanding. Besides, the process of academic performance evaluation of college students is of great significance to promote education quality and teaching effect and optimize student management.
This paper investigates current academic performance evaluation for English major courses through questionnaire and individual interview. The result shows that there are some problems in the academic performance evaluation, such as evaluation content, evaluation method, evaluation result, and so on. Based on the analysis of these problems, some countermeasures and suggestions are put forward to improve the academic performance evaluation model for English major courses, including establishment of diversified evaluation content, introduction of diversified evaluation method, and emphasis on feedback. Finally, teachers and students will be encouraged to adjust their teaching and learning strategies in English learning process, and at the same time, research data and reference materials will be provided for English curriculum reform to promote the continuous improvement of English curriculum system.
