Abstract:Studies on International Phonetic Alphabet, IPA for short, have gained great attention in the field of Second Language Acquisition at home and abroad. Though large quantities of literature on the study of learning IPA were published, their subjects were mainly primary school students and middle school students, who were non-English majors. Hence, the author has decided to carry out a study to investigate the situation of IPA teaching among the freshmen of English majors in Zengcheng College, with the hope of finding out the problems of the IPA teaching and how it affects the English teaching. 

   In this study, the author first did a questionnaire investigation to look into the current situation concerning the existing situation of IPA teaching among the freshmen of English majors in Zengcheng College. Then the author carried out an interview with eight students combining the results of the questionnaires to investigate the problems of the IPA teaching among the freshmen of English Majors in Zengcheng College and how it affects the English learning. Through the questionnaire investigation and interviews, the author found that some students didn't like to learn IPA though college teachers have taught them at class and the students whose English are good in their class thought highly of IPA teaching. They believed that IPA should be first taught in Primary school and Middle school. Then, college should go deep into teaching, so that the students can master it better and use it to learn English well. The author hopes that this study will shed some insights on the IPA teaching and autonomous learning in college.

摘要:近年来,国际音标学习在二语学习中受到了国内外学者的重视,然而,尽管大量关于英语学习的学术文章,书籍等已经出版,但他们主要的研究对象都是小学生,中学生,这些都是非英语专业的学生。因此,本研究试图探讨大学一年级音标学习情况,以找出大学音标教学的问题和音标怎样影响学生的英语学习。在本次研究中,我们首先通过问卷以调查目前大学生音标使用和教师教音标的现状;然后我们对所选取的8个成绩优秀的学生对于音标学习情况进行了访问并得出她们的建议。通过问卷调查和访问,我们发现:有少部分成绩不是很稳定的学生不喜欢学音标,尽管老师在课堂上已经实施音标教学。而成绩比较优秀的学生则认为音标教学非常重要,他们认为音标应该首先在中小学就开始交,到大学后,再进行深入教学,使学生更能运用音标来辅助英语学习。我们希望本研究能为大学英语音标的教学以及自主学习方面提供一些见解。
