Abstract
As we all know English is used all over the world, so it’s very important for everyone to learn English. We Chinese have learned English for almost two-hundred years, thus we are familiar with the teaching of English, and many educators have written articles about it. Besides there are so many foreign people writing articles about the role of mother tongue in foreign language, among which there are two major views about its role, one of the views is that they emphasize too much on the language teaching, but ignore the role of mother tongue, the other is that they think mother tongue is very important and the language teachers should pay attention to it.
Firstly, this paper talks about the current arguments about its roles, then illustrates the current situation of English teaching in our county, last illustrates the roles of mother tongue in language teaching suggestions.
