Abstract
This dissertation studies the application of formative assessment in primary school English teaching. Formative assessment plays an important role in the process of English teaching and learning in primary school. In China, however, a large number of English teachers in primary school adopt summative assessment for quite a long time. In this dissertation, first several theories relevant to formative assessment and some implementation tools are introduced; and then some problems existing in the current formative assessment are discussed and some corresponding suggestions are given.
