Abstract

 

Situational Language Teaching (the SLT) is a significant English teaching approach to cultivating learners’ comprehensive language application ability. Many researches have been done to research the SLT. However, the studies focused more on its theoretical basis but less on its application in English class at primary school. As the SLT has its significant benefits for language learning, more and more primary school teachers apply the SLT to their lessons. But how is the effectiveness? The paper aims at studying the gap between the theory of the SLT and teachers’ views on it, the methods to create situation, and the effectiveness of applying the SLT. During the interview, the writer found that the gap between the theory of the SLT and teachers’ view on it is shortening. Through case analyze, the writer found that the application of the SLT has reached a more mature stage. Teachers can adopt various methods to create situation according to teaching materials. However, there are still problems in creating situation such as inappropriate use of pictures and body language. Therefore, the writer put forward some corresponding suggestions for these problems.
