Abstract
The Call of the Wild is one of the representative works of the American writer Jack London. The background of the story is the gold rush. This novel mainly describes the protagonist Buck who is a pet dog. After deceived into northern wasteland to be a sled dog, he experienced hardships and finally returned to the jungle. This paper describes and analyzes the process of Buck’s transformation, through the analysis of Buck’s experiences and his multiple personality, sums up the important factors to Buck’s transformation. This reveals the nature of the fierce competition between people in the society at that time, to a certain extent, it reveals the social conditions at the same time.
