Abstract:By making a profound comparison of the two characters in Harriet Beecher Stowe’s Uncle Tom’s Cabin, the thesis aims to analysize Tom’s and George’s different fates, influenced by their character ,belief in Christianity, degree of literacy and family. It holds that Tom and George are two typical representatives of slaves. Tom is a pious Christian , loyal and submissive to his master, while George shows great doubt in Christianity and fight for freedom.

摘要:本文以两种命运的对比为切入点,从人物本身的性格、对宗教的态度、知识的力量、家庭的观念这四个因素对汤姆和乔治不同命运所起的作用进行分析,借助对主人公的细致研究以达到更好解读作品的目的。文章认为,汤姆跟乔治是两种奴隶者的典型代表。汤姆是位虔诚的基督徒,对奴隶制仅为客观性地服从。而乔治则对基督嗤之以鼻,为自由而战。
