Abstract:The Joy Luck Club is a famous novel by Amy Tan, a well-known Chinese American woman writer. She presents the complex bittersweet relationship between the two generations of four pairs of Chinese-immigrant mothers and their American-born daughters. This paper explores the bittersweetness between the mothers and daughters with a focus on the development from conflict to reconciliation. Such elements of the cultural difference, self-identity and family bonds have also been approached to reinforce the interpretation of the original reasons that cause the misunderstandings and conflicts between the mothers and daughters, thus revealing the significance of the reconciliation of the bittersweet relationship between the mothers and daughters and between the two cultures.

摘要:美国著名华裔女作家谭恩美的小说《喜福会》描述了四位移居美国的母亲及其在美国成长的女儿之间苦乐交织的复杂关系。论文从文本细读入手，着重讨论小说中母女矛盾的冲突与和解，进而分析其苦乐参半的关系。文章从文化差异、身份认同、血脉亲情等方面切入，揭示了母女间苦乐参半关系的矛盾根源，进而挖掘两代人与两种文化间所蕴涵的深层差异。
