Abstract:In The Triumph of the Egg the unnamed narrator tells stories about his family’s misfortune concerning eggs. With a concentration on the father, the narrator describes how the family tried to make a fortune out of raising eggs but always failed to realize their dreams. Driven by ambition, loneliness and desperate to be heard in an indifferent world, the father changed from a happy farmhand to a gloomy business man. Influenced by the father, the narrator inherits much of the father’s characters which are manifested in his narration of the story. This essay takes these views further and explores the relationship between the father and son, and how Anderson’s own life is reflected in the short story.

摘要:在《鸡蛋的胜利》一文中，小说叙述者讲述了其父母在追求幸福生活的过程中经历的一系列不幸，而这些不幸都与鸡蛋有关。以叙述者的父亲为重点，叙述者讲述了其父母是如何在儿子出生后变得雄心勃勃，离开他们最熟悉的农场，到小镇附近相继办起养鸡场和餐馆生意。因为做生意的知识与经验的不足以及过于天真淳朴的个性与城镇生活的格格不入，在一个陌生而又充满漠然的社会，内向又深感孤独的父亲在不断追求又不断失败的经历下从一个曾经快乐满足的农民变成了郁郁寡欢的商人。在父亲的影响下，叙述者继承了父亲的大部分个性特点而这些特点也在他的叙述中体现了出来。本篇论文将进一步解读叙述者一家在追求幸福的苦闷之旅中经历的改变以及小说作者舍伍德安德森自己的生活在小说中的体现。
